Module 8
Dealing with setbacks
At times of stress, it is easy to slip back into negative loops.
When setbacks happen, think about some of the following points:
Think ahead of time what types of situations might cause problems?
For example, Taylor made a plan of assignments due during the rest of the term.
Catch the issue as quickly as you can.
The earlier you start, the easier it will be to work on it.
Taylor might notice a few assignments are all due in the same week and make a plan to talk to teachers about planning the work required or getting extensions.
Remember, it’s normal to feel a lot of ups and downs. It’s hard at times to sail the waves of our strong feelings.
Taylor was a bit stressed that week the assignments were due and didn’t see her friends that much.
Go back to some of the ideas in this program and do another worksheet.
Taylor went back to Module 6 to practise breaking tasks down into smaller, easier bits. Taylor also went back to Module 3 to practise scheduling enjoyable activities.
Watch below to hear Jamie talk about it.
“I think if I keep working on some of this stuff, it’s going to keep helping me.”
